OVERVIEW

  • Next offering is May 31-June 29, 2024

  • SP288: Study Abroad is an intensive 1.0-credit Spanish language and cultural immersion experience offered by the Department of Languages and Literatures, Faculty of Arts, Wilfrid Laurier University.

  • The field course was created in 2007 and today, over 200 students have gone abroad under the supervision of an accompanying WLU professor.

  • The immersion program lasts approximately one month and is offered in the Spring term at the leading international Spanish language institute El Colegio de España in Salamanca, Spain.

  • Upon arrival to Spain, SP288 students are placed in their appropriate level of Spanish and receive intensive instruction emphasizing key areas of Spanish language learning such as speaking, listening, and grammar.

  • Students have the opportunity to develop Spanish language skills through constant interaction with Spanish-speaking teachers, the host families they live with, community members, and other international students.

  • As a group, SP288 students travel to over a dozen cities throughout Spain on guided tours which offer an understanding of various cultures and contextualize language, art, and history.

  • A prerequisite of at least SP101 or above (or high school equivalent or permission of the department) is required to take SP288. Students can take SP288 during any year of their program.
